Will Be Gracing The Classroom
5 New Technologies That Are/Will Be Gracing The Classroom image via blog.presta.com Technology is advancing right under our noses. One minute, we are all writing with pens on paper and then BAM, we are suddenly leaving that behind and turning toward technology to get the work done for us. So what can you expect to find being used in a modern-day classroom and in the near future? Here are a few things that you should familiarize yourself with: image via www.padgadget.com 1) Tablets When I got to college, I assumed everyone would have their nose buried behind a laptop screen, just like it is in the movies. Though many students do use laptops, iPads are starting to sprout up as the new note-taking device/ classroom best friend. You can buy a keyboard if you are speedy at typing, or buy a stylus and still get that âtaking notes by hand feel. There are even apps, like NotesPlus, where you can write it by hand with a stylus, and the program will type it for you. When taking notes with an iPad, you can put direct screen shots of important slides into your notes, so you will be able to reference them when you go back to study. Students also have the option to record a lecture as they type/write, which is awesome because we all know how hard it is to write and listen at the same time. iPads are much lighter than computers, another quality that is helping them gain popularity among college students. Some schools have even begun requiring students to have iPads.Who knows how long it will be before pen and paper dont exist? 2) SMART Boards My sister, who is currently in high school, came home one day and was telling us about this new thing called a SMART Board, and I had no idea what she was talking about. image via www.plymouth.edu Basically, it is a whiteboard that is interactive, allowing teachers to write digital notes that will be saved and students will be able to access (perfect for if you are absent or slow at taking notes). It is being introduced to colleges as well, when the funding is allowed. Word or PDF documents can be transferred from a computer onto the SMART Board screen, allowing the professor to highlight, circle and write onto the document as much as their heart desires. This is awesome, because it will help students know exactly what the teacher is referencing and provide better communication. 3) PowerPoint PowerPoints are another great way for professors to get their lectures across, especially if they have bad handwriting! PowerPoints have advanced so much and provide a great note taking experience. image via blogs.nvcc.edu It allows the professors to elaborate on their notes and give more attention to the students, rather than having their backs to the students as they scribble something down every five seconds. Zach Beckman, a third year theater student at UC Santa Cruz, said âitâs great to have videos in class [via PowerPoint] because it is far more stimulating.â Focusing for over an hour is always a struggle for students, so having something to focus on that is actually moving will definitely help. Beckman also mentioned, however, that there were a lot of internet problems in his classroom, which of course does not coincide very nicely with PowerPoint. His teacher would have to refer the students to the videos a lot instead of getting to show them in class. âThis particular class was fairly dependent on visual example because it was the medium of set design and the absence of professor commentary was a letdown,â Beckman said. He described technology as being a âdouble-edged swordâ in this case, which is the danger of technology. We love advancement, but there are always things that can go wrong. 4) Social Media Facebook, really? Yes, and not just for passing the time; Facebook is actually starting to make appearances in an academic setting. Many students will form Facebook groups with class/section mates and their T.A.s in order to get extra help. Students can post documents with study guides, ask each other questions, give advice and get to know one another! I mean, youre always on Facebook anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone and actually get some studying done as well? image via www.deepspacemarketing.com Abby Ventura, a second year biology student at UC Santa Cruz, had to make a Twitter account for one of her classes, because her professor wanted to be able to inform them via a social media site, but did not want to add everyone on Facebook. He would update his Twitter about tests, homework and other things that students could easily check. Lindsay Banks, a second year psychology student at UC Santa Cruz, had to make a Tumblr account for her art class, and had to upload pictures of her pieces so her T.A. could see them and make sure that everything was being completed on time. Even though we are all so engrossed in our social media sites, it is still a strange concept that soon our professors will all be tweeting us that class is cancelled instead of sending out an email or simply posting a note on the door. Feel old yet? I sure do. 5) Augmented Reality image via jacket2.org Last year, for our winter Living Writersâ Series at UC Santa Cruz, there was an author named Amaranth Borsuk, who wowed us with her digital pop-up book of poems, Between Page and Screen. Looking at the actual page, you just see a square with some shapes in it, but once you hold the book up to your web cam, the words come to life! And not just as boring old text; the words will spin, make cool shapes, shatter down the pageyou never know what to expect. Though this technology isnt in effect in classrooms yet, I really hope it will be. This will add a whole new realm to the learning experience, and will actually encourage students to read since it will be like uncovering a mystery. The different effects of the text (shapes and such) also add more meaning to the text, and give the author the ability to share so much more with the reader. The software for this awesome reading experience utilizes FLARToolkit to project animations in an augmented-reality. The application also uses the Robot Legs framework, Papervision 3D engine,BetweenAS3 animation engine and Jiglib physics engine. Want to know more and get your hands on the book? Heres the link. Technology is awesome, but dont forget how to write things by hand either! You never know when good old pen and paper will come in handy. Post your notes and study guides for sale today on Flashnotes. To learn more about Flashnotes, click here.
Gain Leadership Skills Working at a Summer Camp
Gain Leadership Skills Working at a Summer Camp pexels.com So how can you gain this experience prior to entering the job industry? For many, becoming a camp counselor is a great way to gain this experience. Donât believe me? Here are ways in which you can gain leadership skills by working at a summer camp. 1. Organizational skills Being an organized person may not seem like a marketable skill for leaders, but itâs one of the most important. Have you ever worked for a person that was disorganized? Or had a teacher that was disorganized? What was that experience like? For many, this is a huge red flag, and more often than not, companies that are disorganized have higher turnover rates. So gaining these organizational skills early on is essential to your marketability. Simply having a schedule for the day, or keeping track of your kids is a great way to enhance these skills. 2. Compassion Again, this might not seem all that important, but being a compassionate leader is another huge bonus. While you will need to be strict at times, showing compassion to your employees and demonstrating their value is going to set you apart from the competition. Simply helping your kids when they need it, or trying to put yourself in their shoes, will help you to gain this experience and youâll be much more likely to know what to do in future, professional situations as well. 3. Becoming an enforcer This is not typically a favorite part of the job, but again, itâs one thatâs necessary. You will need to be a strict boss as well as a compassionate one, as thereâs a certain level of authority that will need to be maintained. The same goes for summer camp. Your kids need to know that youâre in charge and understand your authority. While you donât want them to fear you, you donât want them to feel like they shouldnât respect you either. Once you find that happy medium, youâll be ready for your future role as a leader! 4. Captivating an audience Being a leader largely means âleading.â I know, shocking right? Leading doesnât necessarily mean hand-holding, but it does mean inspiring and motivating those beneath you to strive for more. The more motivating you are, the more likely youâll have many followers in the years to come. You can start on these skills as a camp counselor. Be the counselor that the students want to have. Be the counselor that inspires and motivates them daily. Then, youâll have gained this experience. 5. Troubleshooting problems Again, this isnât an easy part of the job, but itâs another necessary one. You will undoubtedly encounter problems as a leader. Whether this is between two employees or more personal, issues such as this arise all the time. Part of being a good leader is being able to troubleshoot these problems. If you have two kids that fight continually, figure out a way to change that. Maybe force them to work together, maybe you will separate them. Whatever the choice, make sure youâre doing the right thing for all that are involved. As a leader, troubleshooting problems like this will be a part of your daily job description, so itâs best to begin now. 6. Responsibility Finally, but definitely not least, you will need to gain some experience in terms of responsibility. This doesnât always just mean getting up and showing up to work on time, but can also mean taking responsibility for your actions and/or mistakes. Being a good leader means youâre responsible and hold yourself to a high standard. Start that here. If thereâs a code of ethics you need to follow, adhere to it. If thereâs a higher level opportunity available to you, take it, and do it well. Be responsible for not only yourself and your actions but also your kids, as they are a reflection of you just as your employees would be. Responsibility extends far in the industry, so make sure youâre well-rounded prior to applying. Again, leadership skills are going to be hugely important when it comes to your job search. The more experience you have in this regard, the more marketable your resume is going to be. While there are countless ways to gain this experience prior to entering the workforce, one of the easiest is to take a job as a camp counselor at a summer camp. Youâll learn everything you need to in order to obtain an entry-level position in the industry and will ultimately find the experience will set you apart from your competition.

How to Make it as a Touring Musician Sleepmakeswaves Tells All
How to Make it as a Touring Musician Sleepmakeswaves Tells All Maile Proctor If youre an aspiring guitarist, youre going to want to get to know the instrumental post-rock quartet sleepmakeswaves. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, the band kicks off their United States tour this month, behind the release of their new album Love of Cartography. We had a chance to catch up with Alex Wilson from sleepmakeswaves (bass, keys, electronics), to chat about the new album, and living the dream of being a touring musician. TL: First of all, congrats on the new album and the tour, and thank you so much for chatting with us! AW: Thanks for having me. Very excited about our upcoming tour of the United States with The Contortionist, Monuments and Entheos. Only a few days out now. TL: Following the success of your previous album, what were you looking to do differently with Love Of Cartography? AW: We wanted to shake things up for ourselves without vastly changing what we were about. One part of that was the process. We tried to bring our stage show into the studio as much as possible by tracking together in a room. Our producer, Nick DiDia, pushed us in that direction and we would be reluctant to make a record differently now. The other shake-up was the emotional vibe. There was less emphasis on the darker, brooding side of our sound and more push to being euphoric and uplifting. A natural outgrowth of where we were as musicians and people when writing Cartography. TL: You guys are living the dream of many aspiring musicians; what goes into being a touring musician, the dedication involved, practice, sticking with it when you may not feel inspired? AW: Itâs not so much a thing one does, itâs more like a way of life. Thereâs practice, alone and with bandmates. Thereâs admin â" emails, making sure gear works, money stuff. Thereâs being away from work, home, loved ones and finding ways to keep everyday life humming along OK while that happens. Most of all, itâs about a mindset I try to cultivate: balancing the fortune of living the dream with the discipline and dedication to not waste the opportunity. Being grateful for music and travelling the world, and gracious in the face of the tougher stuff: getting fired, getting dumped, being broke, and missing home. TL: Speaking of touring, how do you continue to write new music and practice while on tour? What do you love about being on the road and performing live? AW: I have to write music on the road or I lose my mind. Itâs a way to unwind. On tour, I have my laptop, USB interface, headphones, Ableton Live, amp sims, EZ Drummer and no shortage of guitars. Thatâs enough to keep me cranking out the riffs. Big chunks of Emergent, Great Northern and A Little Spark were written this way. For me, a good night on the road is when sleepmakeswaves takes the stage and is firing on all cylinders. Thereâs a vibe between us and the crowd. Then we get on the bus and talk and drink until 4 a.m. when me, and our drummer Tim, start making sandwiches. Iâve made some very deep relationships touring, have seen amazing parts of the world and shared moments with excellent people all around the world. TL: How does being an instrumental rock band shift your focus, the way you play and practice , and how you write your music? AW: I always wrote music sleepmakeswaves-style, I just happened to find the band that would fit the sound in my head when we got together 10 years ago. The instrumental approach fits my muse well because Iâm at my best when Iâm exploring pure sound and finding new ways to approach the geometries of rhythm and pitch. I have a huge place in my heart for excellent singers and lyrics but I think itâs part of sleepmakeswaves musical path to focus predominantly on the power of instruments and pure sound. TL: How does music allow you to express yourself? Do you find it harder to create music when you are dealing with personal hardships or is it a great outlet for emotions? The whole point of music, to me, is to convey emotion. Sometimes the relationship is one of pursuit. I feel an emotion (joy, despair or something we donât have a name for) and try to nail it down in a song. Sometimes itâs discovery, writing just for the love of music and chancing upon a feeling or vibe that is unintentional but running with it. Johnny Marr, one of my favourite musicians, called songwriting daydreaming in sound. Emotionally, I love composition because itâs satisfying to create. Live, the volume, audience, and physical intensity of what we do takes me out of everyday thought patterns in a way little else can. Writerâs block for me has sometimes corresponded with hard times, sometimes with really great stretches in life. Theres a dark and intense side to my personality that I think would be far harder to manage had I not created such a large space for music in my life. TL: Can you talk a little about your creative process? I know you guys have said originality is a priority, how do you use your musical influences and still maintain your own originality? AW: Thatâs really hard to answer, a great deal of the process is intuitive. I view songs as puzzles that need to balance fresh musical ideas with a kind of emotional narrative that will give them shape and impact. So we tend to cycle through ideas and arrangements until things feel exciting for us while satisfying obsessions we have about balance, melody and atmosphere. For me, originality is good in moderation. I like things to be fresh, but being different just for the sake of it wonât impress me on its own. Thereâs got to be craft and emotion to give weight to a new idea. Some bands are Radiohead and change all the time and remain brilliant. Other bands are Converge and make the same kind of record each time and remain brilliant. TL: Many of our readers are beginner musicians, what advice do you have for someone who is just getting started learning an instrument, or who feels discouraged? AW: Push through the awkward beginnings when your fingers hurt and you donât want to practice. Because eventually youâll be good enough to play your favourite songs. And thatâs one of the best things ever. TL: Weâd love to share your video for Great Northern what would you like our readers to know about the video, can you give us a little background? AW: Itâs made by a friend of ours, Bradley Coomber, who works in the film industry. We told him we wanted a video clip about a kid who travels to space. Because upward motion is heaps inspirational and space rules hard. The results speak for themselves. Again, a big thanks to Alex and all of sleepmakeswaves for chatting with us about music and guitar. Check out their website to keep up with the latest band news; we wish them the best of luck on their tour! Now, check out the new music video for Great Northern! Interested in Private Lessons? reactants in photosynthesis Online Biology Tutors Tutorpace
reactants in photosynthesis Online Biology Tutors Tutorpace Photosynthesis is the process of formation of organic compounds from Carbon dioxide and hydrogen donor like water using radiations or light energy trapped by chlorophyll. Oxygen is evolved where water is used as hydrogen donor. During photosynthesis, light energy is changed into chemical or bond energy present inside the organic compounds. The overall equation for photosynthesis is 6 CO2 + 12 H2O + photons C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O Water is the hydrogen donor. A molecule of water can donate only one hydrogen. As photosynthesis converts inorganic carbon into organic state, it is also called carbon assimilation. Carbon dioxide as raw material: It is obtained from air. Concentration of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is only 0.03%.However the total amount is quite large, sufficient to last for several years even without replenishment. For passing into photosynthetic cells, carbondioxide dissolves in water .Aquatic plants also depend upon dissolved carbon dioxide present in water .If we increase the concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere by hundred times the rate of photosynthesis goes on increasing. But in practice it is extremely difficult to increase carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere to the optimum level required for photosynthesis. Water as raw material: Water is a raw material for all photosynthetic organisms except bacteria. Bacterial photosynthesis is anoxygenic.Photosynthetic bacteria used either organic acids or reduced sulphur as reluctant for carbon assimilation. It is amazing that of the total water absorbed by a plant body only 1% is used in photosynthesis. Water may become a limiting factor during drought condition. Photosynthesis is a redox process in which hydrogen is obtained from various sources. In oxygenic photosynthesis, water is used as reductant and oxygen is evolved from water.
7 Most effective tips on socializing for introvert (by Introverts) - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / 7 Most effective tips on socializing for introvert (by Introverts) - Introvert Whisperer 7 Most effective tips on socializing for introvert (by Introverts) Life is all about making human bonds. Without bonds and people to share your life with, life would become boring and dull. And with making bonds, I donât mean to have a huge following on the internet and social media. I mean having the courage to go and talk to people face to face. When we meet new people and bond over shared sorrows or joys, those people become special to us. But there are some people like me, who are introverts and it is a huge task to go and talk to people. We love to listen, but giving our inputs is a huge burden for us. For introverts, it is a huge task to enter a social event and mix with people, especially if they are strangers. Here are some of the most effective tricks and tips that will help all introverts out there. Also, it will help people with social anxiety. What more? These tips will work as only introverts shared these tips. Letâs begin⦠Donât overthink, do it If you overthink about every social outing, you will never be able to make a bond. So, put yourself out there. Step outside your comfort zone and try to have a face-to-face conversation with people. Use social media to engage in a conversation to get more comfortable with talking to a person. Also, start looking at all social meetings as a chance to meet new people, an adventure, and it will become easy for you. Get comfortable Before going to a social event, get comfortable with the idea. Find out who will be there as it will help you get relaxed. Also, to remain calm, watch a funny movie or show before going to that event. Set realistic and simple goals Donât over expect from yourself. To become a person who is confident meeting and talking to new people, you should set realistic goals for yourself. You can also make planner of the dos and donâts. Set a goal to meet and talk to one person a day. It is a simple goal, right? Totally achievable. Or set a goal to go out by yourself to a mall or a social event and meet people and have fun. Donât set goals like hosting a whole party, it will only pressurize you. Take inspiration from your extrovert friends We all know one person or have one friend who loves meeting new people or going out. Take help from that friend and tag along with him/her to a social event or so on. It will help you get out and meet some new people and maybe forge a bond with someone. Also, your extrovert friend will be at ease and might take the whole room by storm. Donât let that affect you, keep smiling, and be a part of the conversation. Donât be afraid of the nerves, it just indicates that you are alive Feeling nervous about a social outing, or going to that family dinner? Good, as it shows that you are a human and can feel. Even though you feel nervous and scared, donât let it hold you back. Socializing is a skill and with time and practice, once can grow to become a great conversationalist. Steer the conversation so that itâs about them and not you As an introvert, we rarely like attention and focus on ourselves in a social setting. It makes us uncomfortable and awkward, and we are ready to flee the scene any minute. But take a deep breath and steer the conversation so the focus is on them. Ask them questions about their lives, and you will feel relaxed and comfortable. It will also help you open up to them. Donât think of yourself as an introvert Stop labeling yourself as an introvert or extrovert. We human beings have a complex personality, with so many talents and skills. Labeling us an introvert, or extrovert, or a person with social anxiety only restricts us. Instead, go and meet new people, try to have a conversation about a common favorite topic or enjoy each otherâs company in silence. Gradually, you will become confident enough to go out and have fun without overthinking. Being an introvert is not a bad thing, and there is no need to change your personality to fit into the world. The only reason we should encourage ourselves to go out, and be with others is to enjoy our one life. Author Bio : Kavita is Outreach Specialist cum Content writer. We string them together in complex patterns that give meaning, both overt and implied - through context clues.Overt meaning is what a word or sentence represents; implied meaning is conveyed by word choice, tone, and body language.Human languages have a structure that is defined by rules for every aspect of communication. This collection of rules is identified by the blanket term: grammar.Sir William Jones first recognised patterns of speech and writing, sometime during the 1780s, while analysing Latin, Greek and Sanskrit. He found these grammars to be fully formed; complete in every aspect of their language.Grammar has developed in the last three thousand years, but it has not improved and it has not degenerated. It has merely changed.Slow and constant change, without improvement and without degeneration, is a characteristic of grammar in all languages. - Christopher MulveyBe that as it may, the English language is our focus. There are a further four special tenses, to be used only in certain grammar constructs. We will talk more in-depth about verbs later on.Adjectives and AdverbsThese words are describers.
